4 Weight Loss Secrets

Currently, over 66% of American adults are overweight or obese, with many of them making “lose weight” their #1 new year’s resolution. And for good reason. Being overweight or obese raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, arthritis and other conditions, and an obese person can expect to pay about 41% more in health care costs per year than a person of normal weight.

Here are our top 4 weight loss suggestions:

1. Establish and follow an ongoing diet that is 80% alkaline/20% acidic

Dr. Robert O. Young, author of The pH Miracle for Weight Loss, explains that, “The body retains fat as a protection against the overproduction of acids produced by the typical American diet…Your fat is actually saving your life.” As further proof of this, tests on fat which was liposuctioned by plastic surgeons revealed that fat is full of acid. Reducing your consumption of acid-forming foods like meat, processed foods, soda, sugar and artificial sweeteners and replacing with a plant-based diet of alkaline-forming fruits, vegetables and whole grains is a surefire way to reduce acidity and thus achieve natural weight loss and improved overall health.

2. Hydrate with Chanson alkaline ionized water

“An acidic body pulls water into the tissues to try to neutralize the acids there…Without enough water, your body becomes too acidic and goes into preservation–fat-storing mode,” according to Dr. Young. He goes on to say that, “Drinking alkaline water washes away acids and wastes, helping your whole body stay alkaline. By providing alkaline water to neutralize and remove acid from the tissues, you’ll stop the body from gleaning alkaline substances from other parts to do the job–like leeching calcium from your bones.” By continuously alkalizing the body with Chanson alkaline ionized water, weight loss may result since the toxins will be flushed out thereby rendering the fat unnecessary. Chanson Water is now Dr. Young’s preferred brand of ionizers.

3. Exercise–the alkaline way

“Pain when you exercise is a sure sign that you are oxygen-deficient and producing increased metabolic acids (lactic acid & sugar)  rather than accessing your electron reserves and acidifying your body. You’re stressing rather than strengthening your body. So be sure to keep your exercise pain-free, fully electron-charged from alkaline foods and drinks and aerobic. If at any point you do feel pain or discomfort while exercising, stop immediately and hydrate…(with) good alkaline water to restore alkalinity and to increase your reserves of electrons,” Dr. Young says. Rather than pushing the body to exhaustion or inflicting pain on the muscles and joints, you should practice aerobic exercises like walking, jogging or rebounding (jumping on a mini trampoline) or static exercises like yoga, pilates, stretching and pain-free weight-training which are all alkaline-forming.

4. Don’t stress

While stress over achieving your weight loss goals and frustration during the process is natural, it’s important to try to keep stress and negativity to a minimum in order to reduce acidity. This is because Dr. Young has seen negative emotions have a more damaging effect on one’s alkalinity than even the worst of foods! When you start to feel negative emotions or think negative thoughts, try taking a few deep breaths and distracting yourself with something positive like pictures of a loved one or a happy memory.

We hope you find these weight-loss suggestions helpful, and wish you the best on your journey to a healthier version of yourself.

Alkaline Recipe: Avocado Tofu Breakfast Burrito

Our Avocado Tofu Breakfast Burrito is a great, easy and filling alternative to a traditional egg and cheese breakfast burrito and is not limited to just mornings! New Years Detox

Since overeating during the holidays has become commonplace and even “tradition”, most people naturally look to the new year as a fresh start and thus make resolutions to lose weight, quit bad habits like smoking, and start going to the gym.

Goal-setting/planning is the first step towards making positive changes for your health and we recommend that you consider a detox program to kick off the new year. A detox program can aid your body’s natural cleaning process by releasing excess toxins and wastes, improving circulation, and replenishing your supply of alkaline minerals.

There are many different detox methods that you can implement as well as time periods you can choose to do them for. We recommend that you consider the following suggestions and select the methods and time periods you feel are most realistic for you. Obviously the more methods you implement and the longer you do them for, the better your results may be, however taking on too much at once could be counterproductive if you fail to stick with them. We have heard of cleanses lasting anywhere from three days to three months, and people changing their diets for a lifetime or doing one-day-a-week fasts indefinitely.

A detox program can benefit virtually everyone, however if you have a health condition or are pregnant or nursing, you should discuss with your physician before starting any new eating or lifestyle program.

Here are some methods to naturally cleanse and detox your system:

Juice fasts

Fresh juice fasts (especially those high in greens) are a popular way to cleanse and alkalize the body. You can try starting every day with a glass of fresh juice, replace one meal a day with juice, or go all out and drink nothing but juice for weeks or months as Joe Cross did and inspired many others to do in the film “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.” We recommend cucumber-pear and kale-green apple as easy and cleansing duos, but keep in mind that the act of juicing even the most alkaline of fruits and vegetables creates a mildly acidic juice, therefore we recommed that you offset the acidity by diluting with 9.5 Chanson alkaline ionized water. You can juice your own if you own a juicer, or there are companies on the internet that you can order from which will deliver fresh juice to your door daily for the duration of your cleanse.

Hydrate with alkaline ionized water

Drinking Chanson alkaline ionized water is essential throughout any detox program because it helps to flush out the many toxins that will be stirred up and eliminated from fat stores and organs in your body like your lymphatic system and your kidneys. Ionized water is microclustered which means it penetrates cells deeper than traditional water and can thus flush them out more effectively. A Chanson water ionizer is a wonderful investment for overall day-to-day health, not just during a detox. You can also try one day a week “water fasts” where you drink nothing but Chanson ionized water to cleanse your system.

Liquid feasts

One of the reasons juice and water fasts are so effective is because they give your body a break from having to work so hard to break down your food for digestion. Therefore you can also try a liquid diet of blending or pureeing your food if you wish to consume more than just juice or water. Soups and smoothies are examples of liquid feast “dishes” you can try and are recommended by Dr. Robert O. Young in his book “The pH Miracle for Weight Loss.”

Cut the crap

When we consume unnatural foods, they can leave behind a dense residue in our cells, which can turn into excess weight, body odor, wrinkles, cellulite and premature aging. Therefore, sugar, artificial sweeteners, animal products, processed foods, and fried foods should be eliminated from your diet during a detox and reduced in general for overall health. For example, just because coffee, alcohol, milk and sodas are liquids does not mean that they are acceptable for a liquid feast. Likewise, ordering “fresh juice” off of a Jamba Juice menu is not going to have the desired effect due to the excess sugar their smoothies contain. Dairy products clog your system and are acidifying, so avoid yogurt also.

Eat raw

If you choose to incorporate some solid foods into your diet, then you should rely heavily on raw alkaline fruits and vegetables as snacks, starters and even meals. Raw foods are more nutrient-dense than cooked foods and their negative ionic charge is the opposite of the positive ionic charge of toxins in our cells. The fiber found in fruits and vegetables will also help with elimination as well. Consider munching on carrot, celery and bell pepper sticks dipped in hummus, salads with oil-based dressings, and fruits dipped in almond butter.

Colonics

According to Dr. Norman Walker, author of “Colon Health: The Key to a Vibrant Life”: “The elimination of undigested food and other waste products is equally important as the proper digestion and assimilation of food…the very best diets can be no better than the very worst if the sewage system of the colon is clogged with a collection of waste and corruption.” A colonic is a safe and effective method for cleansing the bowels and can be performed by a professional or done in the comfort of your own home with the use of a colema board as often as once a month. Without them, buildup in the bowels can lead to prevention of the absorption of water and nutrients, constipation, growth of harmful bacteria and yeast and autointoxication (when toxins are absorbed into the bloodstream through the colon wall).

Go green

While you’re working hard to watch what goes into and comes out of your body, don’t forget to keep an eye on the toxins you may be exposing yourself to externally. Virtually all chemical-based household cleaners and many personal beauty products like shampoos, deodorants and toothpastes are acidifying to the body and contain known carcinogens. Chanson ionized acidic water–the byproduct of a water ionizer–is an all-natural alternative to everything from mouthwash and facial toner to Windex and Lysol.

Exercise–the alkaline way

“Instead of hard exercise (which creates lactic acid), one should practice traditional Asian soft-style exercises such as yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi Gung on a daily basis throughout the duration of any detox program” according to Daniel Reid, author of “The Tao of Detox.” Don’t have the time and/or desire to learn traditional Asian exercises? Rebounding on a mini-trampoline can dramatically improve lymph flow while exercising every cell in the body, and walking, stretching and aerobic exercise also works well.

Pledge to be stress-free

When stress hormones are released into the system in large amounts, toxins are created and can slow down the detoxification enzymes in the liver. Negative emotions are also very damaging and should be minimized. Dr. Young has seen negative emotions have a more damaging effect on one’s alkalinity than the worst of foods, and world-renowned photographer Dr. Masaru Emoto has documented the effects of negative words on water crystals with pictures (this is important considering that we are about 70% water!)

Practice hydrotherapy

To increase circulation and help flush out toxins, try alternating a very hot shower for five minutes, with cold water for 30 seconds, for a series of three times in a row before wrapping in a towel and getting into bed for 30 minutes. But don’t try this before installing a Chanson Spa Shower Filter, which filters harmful chlorines and chloramines from the water which would otherwise be absorbed by your skin and lungs.

Sweat it out

One way toxins are released from the body is through perspiration, which is why most spas offer saunas and steam rooms. Infrared saunas are preferred as they can cause you to perspire more than twice as much, and if you are going to be using a steam room or wet sauna make sure it is using filtered water so that you are not inhaling the contaminants found in tap water.

Breathe deeply

“Deep breathing greatly enhances oxygenation of the blood and tissues, which helps neutralize acidosis and maintains a healthy alkaline environment inside the body” according to Reid. One of the main ways to move the lymph system is through breathing deeply, so try focusing on your breathing several times throughout the day.

Dry skin brushing

To increase lymph flow, you can use a natural bristle brush on dry skin by brushing in circular motions towards the heart. This will help your lymph system rid itself of the toxins that collect in the lymph glands and keep  the pores of the skin open.

We hope that you will find these detox suggestions helpful and will try to implement one or more of them this new year for better health.

9 Easy Alkaline Substitutions Anyone Can Make for Better Health

The idea of completely changing one’s eating habits to a whole foods, plant-based diet is overwhelming for most people despite the many proven health benefits that may result. Adding to the challenge may be unsupportive household family members who scoff at the idea of eggplant as a main dish for dinner or refuse to even try tofu. In an effort to help, we’ve created a list of nine small, easy, alkaline substitutes anyone can make to improve their alkalinity (some of which you can swap without the family even noticing!). Even if you never make it to the ideal 80% alkaline/20% acidic ratio, these slight changes will be beneficial to your health and won’t feel like much of a sacrifice (if at all).

1. Instead of Vegetable Oil try Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Corn oil, canola oil, safflower oil, and vegetable oil are refined oils that are not healthy and should be avoided and replaced with cold-pressed oils like extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, flaxseed oil, coconut oil and hemp oils. Healthy fats are an important part of an alkaline diet and can be obtained through substituting healthy oils for the more mainstream unhealthy oils. All oils can create free radicals when heated, so we recommend using a small amount of water to steam fry your vegetables and then drizzling oil on top, making your own oil-based salad dressings and drizzling healthy oils on top of vegetable wraps.

2. Instead of Sugar or Artificial Sweeteners try Stevia

Sugar has been linked to cancer and artificial sweeteners are not only acidifying but carcinogenic. Swapping your sugar cubes with stevia, an all-natural sweetener derived from herbs, is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family. According to Ray Kurzwell, author Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever: stevia is highly nutritious, lowers blood sugar in diabetics while regulating blood sugar in non-diabetics, lowers elevated blood pressure, kills bacteria that cause tooth decay, increases energy levels and mental activity, and reduces cravings for alcohol and tobacco. Other natural sugar alternatives: Chicory root, agave nectar.

3. Instead of Table Salt try Sea Salt

Our bodies contain about a pound of salt, and sodium is an alkaline mineral necessary for survival. But the refined iodized salt that sits on most dinner tables in America is completely unhealthy and the type of salt doctors are referring to when they advise patients to cut down on their salt intake. Refill your salt shaker with unrefined sea salt and sprinkle on top of wraps, soups and vegetables. Other alternatives: Celtic salt, Himalayan salt, Real salt.

4. Instead of Peanut Butter try Almond Butter

Peanuts are acidifying to the body and the moldiest, most undesirable peanuts are what is used to make peanut butter. Swap out your P.B. for it’s healthier cousin almond butter, and spread on sandwiches and use as a dip for pretzels, crackers, fruit, and to make smoothies creamier.

5. Instead of Cows Milk try Unsweetened Almond Milk

Cows milk and other dairy products are not only acidifying but contrary to popular belief they actually rob the body of calcium and create a putrid sludge that wreaks havoc on your digestive system. Dump your carton of cows milk and try unsweetened almond milk instead. It is a healthy, delicious, alkaline substitute for drinking, cooking, baking, creamer and making cereal. Other alternatives (buy unsweetened): Coconut milk, soy milk, goat milk, rice milk.

6. Instead of White Rice try Brown Rice

The complete milling and polishing that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the vitamin B1, 90% of the vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. Fully milled and polished white rice is required to be artificially “enriched” with vitamins B1, B3 and iron. Clearly, brown rice is the nutritional winner over white rice. Other alternatives: Basmati rice, quinoa, jasmine rice, wild rice.

7. Instead of Soy Sauce try Bragg Liquid Aminos

Soy sauce is fermented and acidic. A great substitute is Bragg Liquid Aminos, which is a liquid protein concentrate derived from healthy soybeans, which contains 18 essential and non-essential amino acids in naturally occurring amounts, is not fermented or heated and is gluten-free.

8. Instead of Spaghetti try Soba Noodles

Most pastas are made with refined starches that lack nutritional value. Try swapping your spaghetti for soba noodles, tofu noodles, gluten-free pasta, whole wheat pasta or spaghetti squash. You can also try making your own pasta sauce from scratch instead of using pre-packaged sauces which tend to contain sugar and preservatives.

9. Instead of Bottled Water try Alkaline Ionized Water

Not all waters are created equal. Most bottled waters, along with distilled and reverse osmosis waters are actually acidic. Tap water is regulated by the government to be at least a 7 pH which is neutral on the alkaline scale, but is littered with contaminants. Therefore your best option is alkaline ionized water from a Chanson water ionizer which you can hook up to your tap. The water is pre-filtered and microclustered, resulting in better tasting water with a smoother feel that doesn’t cause bloating. It is also rich in antioxidants and able to hydrate and detoxify better than standard water due to its smaller water molecule size. Being properly hydrated is the key to overall wellness and you will not regret the switch from bottled water to ionized alkaline water.

Forget Milk. Got Chanson Alkaline Water?

Milk does a body good. Or does it?

For decades we’ve been taught that milk is healthy and full of necessary nutrients and minerals, most of all calcium to build strong bones. So why instead have studies found a link between high dairy consumption and osteoporosis?

Like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body’s pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. Calcium from our bones is used to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones it leaves the body via urine, so the surprising net result is an actual calcium deficit after drinking milk.

A 12 year long Harvard Nurses’ Health Study found that those who consumed the most calcium from dairy foods broke more bones than those who rarely drank milk. This was a broad study based on 77,761 women aged 34-59.

Cow’s milk does contain 118 mg of calcium in every 100 grams, but the problem is that those 100 grams also contain 97 mg of phosphorus, and phosphorus combines with calcium in the digestive tract and actually blocks the absorption of calcium.

Cow’s milk also contains 50 mg sodium per 100 grams (compared with only 16 mg in human milk) thus rendering dairy products one of the most common sources of excess sodium in the modern Western diet.

Pasteurization destroys the natural enzyme in cow’s milk required to digest its heavy protein content. This excess milk protein then putrefies in the human digestive tract, clogging the intestines and seeping back into the bloodstream. As the dairy sludge accumulates, the body forces some of it out through the skin and lungs while the rest of it forms mucus that breeds infections, causes allergic reactions, and stiffens joints with calcium deposits. Eliminating all dairy products from the diet has been found to help with conditions such as chronic asthma, allergies, ear infections, and acne.

These days dairy cows are given a host of antibiotics and hormones, traces of which you end up drinking. The government has also set allowable levels of blood, urine and pus in the milk sold for consumption. Pesticides from cow feed also find their way into your milk, and preservatives and additives are used to extend its shelf life.

Cow’s milk is not nearly as good a source of calcium as other far more digestible and wholesome foods. Compare the 118 mg calcium per 100 grams cow’s milk with 100 grams of the following alkaline foods: almonds (254 mg), broccoli (130 mg), kale (187 mg), sesame seeds (1,160 mg) and kelp (1,093 mg).

Goat’s milk approximates the nutritional composition and balance of human milk and is thus better suited to humans than cow’s milk. Non-dairy alternatives are soy milk, rice milk and almond milk, with almond milk being the most alkaline and therefore the highest recommended.

Why Chanson Alkaline Water is Superior to Cow’s Milk

Chanson alkaline water contains calcium and magnesium along with other essential minerals (levels vary depending on source water). Unlike milk, there are no added hormones, antibiotics, preservatives or chemicals (not to mention blood, urine or pus!) in Chanson ionized water, and there have been no known allergic reactions.

Drinking Chanson alkaline ionized water may be a significant source of calcium, providing over one-third of the recommended dietary intake of this mineral in adults. And because magnesium in water is highly bio-available, it is absorbed approximately 30% faster and better than magnesium from food.

Chanson alkaline ionized water is micro-clustered which makes it easier to absorb at the cellular level and thus improves mineral absorption and overall hydration. This increased absorption also aids the detoxification process, allowing the body to rid itself of all water soluble toxins. Therefore, Chanson alkaline water can actually help your body rid itself of the toxins put there by milk and other dairy products!

So instead of asking yourself “Got Milk?” a better question would be “Got Chanson alkaline water?”

Debunking the Milk Myth: Why Milk is Bad for You and Your Bones by Vivian Goldschmidt, MA

Detoxify Now Food Profiles – Dairy

A Little Milk with Your Antibiotics and Hormones? by Deliah Quigley

14 Common Health Misconceptions

Here we will debunk several food, drink and lifestyle myths as they relate to overall health. Some information may shock you, but overall we hope that what you learn will inspire you to make changes in your everyday life and diet and better your health.

Top 14 Food, Drink and Lifestyle Misconceptions:

1. Milk is the best source of calcium for your body, particularly your bones

This is probably the most widely believed health myth of all, and we encourage you to share what you are about to read with others. Studies have actually found a link between high dairy consumption and osteoporosis. Why? Because like all animal protein, milk acidifies the body’s pH which in turn triggers a biological correction. The calcium in the milk itself is rendered useless because it combines with phosphorus (also in milk) which blocks the absorption of calcium. Calcium from our bones is used to neutralize the acidifying effect of milk. Once calcium is pulled out of the bones it leaves the body via urine, so the surprising net result is an actual calcium deficit after drinking milk. For more information, please read our article: Forget Milk. Got Chanson Ionized Water?

2. Meat is the best source of protein, and vegans/vegetarians don’t get enough protein since they don’t eat meat

The truth is, the average American gets approximately 50% more protein than needed or recommended. Unlike certain vitamins that our bodies can store and use at a later time, the body has no means of storing excess protein, and it ends up putting a strain on the liver and the kidneys. Next to water, protein is the main substance in plant and animal cells, with the exception of fat cells. Unlike animal protein, plants can manufacture all amino acids from nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other chemicals through photosynthesis, while meat only contains some of them. Animal protein production requires more than eight times as much fossil-fuel energy than production of plant protein.

According to Dr. Howard Murad, “There are many benefits to eating vegetable protein food as opposed to animal sources of protein. Vegetable proteins contain no cholesterol or saturated fat and in many cases also provide a good source of dietary fiber.”

3. Bottled water and reverse osmosis water is good for you

The process known as reverse osmosis rids tap water of most nasty toxins, contaminants and bacteria, but it also strips it of valuable minerals, rendering it acidic which actually causes the body to rob itself of minerals to offset the unnatural imbalance. Most bottled waters are just tap water which have been run through a reverse osmosis system and have an acidic pH which means they can actually be dehydrating! Although bottled waters are the lesser evil when it comes to selecting a pre-packaged beverage as they do not contain sweeteners, preservatives and artificial ingredients which would make them even more acidic, the healthiest and most hydrating drink of all is alkaline ionized water.

4. Diet soda is healthier than regular soda

Soda is one of the most acidic things you can consume with an average pH of 2.5. The artificial sweeteners in diet soda have an even worse effect on the body than regular sugar. Aspartame (found in NutraSweet and Equal) is considered neurotoxic, allergenic, and carcicongenic according to Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy. Eliminating all sodas and artificial sweeteners from your household is one of the best things you can do for you and your family. We recommend an all-natural sweetener called Stevia as a healthy alternative.

5. If I was dehydrated, I would know it by extreme thirst

The truth is that 75% of Americans are dehydrated and most don’t even know it! Our thirst mechanism is extremely weak and does not kick in until the body is already dehydrated. Common signs of dehydration include headaches, dry skin, dark urine, dry mouth, fatigue and nausea. Also, when we feel hungry, sometimes we are actually thirsty instead of hungry but for whatever reason our bodies can’t tell the difference. Water plays many essential roles in the body, including digesting food, carrying waste products out of the body, providing a medium in which biochemical reactions such as metabolism occur, sending electrical messages between cells, regulating body temperature and lubricating joints so it’s important to get enough. Try upping your water intake to a minimum of half your weight in ounces (more if you are athletic or highly active), and try drinking a glass of water the next time you feel hungry to see if that takes the edge off.

6. Sports drinks are ideal for athletes and during workouts

The truth is, the leading sports drink has a pH of only 2.95, making it MORE ACIDIC than Red Bull and Diet Coke! When you consume sports drinks, your body leeches alkaline minerals from the body to neutralize them; particularly calcium from bones and magnesium from muscles–two of the most easily and frequently injured areas of an athlete’s body. Thus, drinking sports drinks may actually weaken the body and make it more prone to injury! In addition, the leading sports drink has a positive Oxygen Reduction Potential (ORP) of 318, which means it contains free radicals which actually DESTROY cells!
7. 100% fruit juice drinks and Jamba Juice smoothies are healthy

Even 100% fruit juice has a high, concentrated sugar content which slows fluid absorption, and the acids in the juice may cause stomach upset. Some falsely believe that sugar derived from fruits it is acceptable, however your body doesn’t know the difference and converts sugar into alcohol. Try diluting fruit juice with alkaline ionized water to reduce the sugar intake and offset the acidity and to wean children off of fruit juice.

One Jamba Juice smoothie contains more sugar than the USDA recommends we  consume in an entire day. A “Jamba Light” (their low-cal solution) is made with Splenda (sucralose). Self-reported adverse reactions to Splenda or sucralose collected by the Sucralose Toxicity Information Center include: skin rashes/flushing, panic-like agitation, dizziness and numbness, diarrhea, swelling, muscle aches, headaches, intestinal cramping, bladder issues, and stomach pain and is believed to be a possible migraine trigger. Try making your own fruit smoothies at home with low-sugar fruits and coconut or almond milk for an occasional treat.

8. I don’t have to buy organic produce–I can just wash off the pesticides with tap water

Unfiltered tap water is littered with contaminants, chemicals, toxins, bacteria and even pesticides and antibiotics. Rinsing your produce with unfiltered tap water is like bathing in a muddy puddle–while you may get some of bacteria off, you are more likely to actually pick up extra contaminants. A better solution is to buy organic and soak produce in 9.5 alkaline water for 10 minutes which will not only cleanse the food but enhance the flavor and temporarily give it a negative ORP, which creates antioxidants. The most pesticide-ridden produce that should always be bought organic include peaches, spinach, apples, celery, strawberries, imported nectarines, imported grapes, sweet bell peppers, potatoes, blueberries, lettuce and kale.

9. “No pain, no gain” is the right motto when it comes to exercise

Pain during and after exercise is usually a result of lactic acid production, which is toxic and acidifying to the body and thus counterproductive to health. The two most important things to remember are that you need to break a sweat without being so out-of-breath that you can’t carry on a conversation while exercising, and that if you start to feel pain ease up on whatever you are doing (for example, if you are jogging, resume walking until the pain subsides). Drinking Chanson alkaline ionized water during exercise is believed by many athletes to support a faster recovery time.

10. Everyone should get a flu shot annually

According to Dr. J. Anthony Morris, the former Chief Vaccine Control Officer at the FDA, “There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine, thus far developed, is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza.” Flu shot ingredients include toxins such as ethylene glycol (a.k.a. antifreeze), formaldehyde, aluminum and thimerosol (a form of mercury). Thimerosol has been banned in all childhood vaccinations in the United States, yet it still remains in the influenza vaccine today. Boost your immune system with alkalizing foods and ionized alkaline water this flu season instead of injecting yourself and your loved ones with toxic chemicals.

11. Anyone who thinks their “stuff doesn’t stink” is merely suck up

Pungent, odorous feces and gas are actually symptoms of an acidic body, which is unnatural and unhealthy. The sad truth is that as over-consumers of highly acidic foods like meat, dairy, and carbs, we’ve just learned to live with the stinky consequences and accept them as an unavoidable reality. But, adopting an alkalarian diet of fresh vegetables, fruits and alkaline water creates an internal alkaline environment which is the opposite of acidic, and thus odorless feces! So if someone were to ask us if we thought our stuff didn’t stink, we could proudly reply “Yep!”

12. Once you develop an allergy, there’s no way to get rid of it, you can only control it with antihistamines

According Dr. Robert O. Young, author of The pH Miracle: “Allergies are 100% reversible with an alkaline diet and lifestyle.” Antihistamines are acid-forming and can cause dehydration, but allergies can be treated by increased water intake, because hydrating the body inhibits the excess production and release of histamine. Mucus traps allergens in, and alkaline ionized water (which is more hydrating than regular water and can penetrate cells deeper) helps flush out mucus.

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj states, “This demonstration of water to histamine has been demonstrated in several animal experiments. It is now physiologically apparent that water by itself has very strong antihistaminic properties.” So instead of reaching for an acidifying antihistamine this allergy season, reach for a glass of alkaline ionized water instead.

13. Radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery are the best solutions for cancer

In the book The Hidden Truth of Cancer, Dr. Keiichi Morishita says, “Modern medicine in America treats malignant (cancer) cells as if they were bacteria or viruses. It uses chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to treat cancer. Yet none of these treatments will help very much, if after all of that, the acidic environment remains. Drinking water that has a high alkaline pH, because of its de-acidifying effect, will help in preventing cancer. In Asia, alkaline water is regularly served to patients, and is considered a regular part of treatment.”

Studies have shown that chemotherapy, radiation and surgery are usually only effective with some of the more rare types of cancer, and that an alkaline diet of fruits and vegetables can have miraculous healing and preventative effects. 14. I could never adopt a vegan, vegetarian or raw food diet because it’s “too hard”

Joe Cross went on 60 day juice fast while driving across America with a juicer in the back of his car and inspired many to try a juice fast in the documentary “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.” Thousands of people have quit eating meat, dairy, animal products and/or the use of heat to prepare their food and never looked back, or sustained their diet for a period of their choosing. Presumably all achieved some variation of positive health results through these even temporary dietary changes.

Here’s a secret–processed foods are designed to make you crave more of them, and when you eliminate them from your diet you will find that you no longer crave them the way you used to! In fact, you will start to crave healthy foods because your body will adapt. The beginning of a diet is always the hardest as your body is thrown into detox mode and has not learned to release those cravings and will initially be confused as to where all the things like sugar have gone and cry out for them. Therefore you should be prepared and motivated, or try to ease into it. Even reducing the amount of animal products, processed foods, sugary drinks and cooked foods you consume has benefits. For example, you could start by replacing soda with alkaline ionized water, cow’s milk with almond milk, and adopting “Meatless Mondays.” You are ultimately in control of your health and if we can do it, so can you.

How to Make Your Thanksgiving Meal More Alkaline

The holidays are most often an excuse to overindulge or neglect your diet, but they don’t have to be. Perhaps you’re dedicated to or interested in keeping your alkaline-acid balance as close to 80/20 as possible, or your family has dietary restrictions due to diabetes or high blood pressure, or your son is bringing a vegetarian to dinner.

Whatever the case may be, choosing to prepare and serve holiday meals which are more nutritious and less acidic is the best choice you can make for you and your family. Here we will offer some suggestions as to alternatives or modifications to the traditional Thanksgiving meal. We hope that you will be inspired to try something new or to create your own, healthier, more alkaline dishes.

Beverages

In general it’s best to drink as little as possible of ANY beverage with meals in order to not dilute your food and to better absorb its nutrients.

The healthiest, most alkaline beverage you can consume is Chanson ionized alkaline water. However, because your stomach uses its acids to break down the food you digest, it’s best not to drink more than four ounces of alkaline ionized water with meals or too close to your meal time. Therefore we recommend waiting one hour before and after meals before drinking alkaline ionized water, and serving purified water from a Chanson ionizer with meals if drinking more than four ounces. Bottled water is often acidic and plain tap water is filled with toxins and contaminants and should thus be avoided.

Instead of alcohol, you may want to try Martha Stewart’s non-alcoholic Ginger Beer. Sugar can be replaced with stevia or agave nectar, which are both natural sweeteners. You can also try adding slices of lime and lemon to make it more alkalizing. Ginger has long been used to settle upset stomachs, so it may help in the event that some of your guests overeat all of your yummy food! Because this drink is non-alcoholic, it may be a good alternative to sodas for children (although you may want to use less ginger so that it’s more palatable). It takes 32 glasses of alkaline water to offset the damaging acidity of one glass of soda, therefore soda should be avoided at all costs. Diet sodas aren’t any better and contain artificial sweeteners with carcinogenic ingredients.

Instead of cow’s milk, try almond milk. Despite the widespread belief that the calcium in cow’s milk is necessary for building strong bones, studies show a link between high milk consumption and osteoporosis! Cow’s milk is acidic, and instead of absorbing the calcium in it, your body literally robs its bones of minerals to offset the acidity! Alternatives like goat’s milk, soy milk, rice milk and almond milk are all preferred, however almond milk is most alkaline. You can find original, vanilla and chocolate almond milk at your grocery or health food store, or might want to try making your own Vanilla Almond Milk.

Instead of unnatural fruit juices and punch, try preparing fresh-squeezed lemonade sweetened with stevia or agave nectar. Adults and kids alike might also enjoy Harry Potter Pumpkin Juice (can substitute stevia or agave nectar for honey, and cut out or reduce pineapple juice which is acidic). Another simple yet festive alternative would be fresh carrot juice, which you can make with your own juicer.

If alcohol must be served, try limiting it to red wine, well known for its antioxidant properties.

Starters

It’s best to start your holiday meal with a salad course followed by a soup course. This will allow your body to absorb the nutrients in the salad’s raw vegetables and fruits, while simultaneously filling you up so that you don’t overindulge on the main course and desserts. It’s important to soak all fruits and vegetables8.0-8.5 pH Chanson ionized water to remove pesticides and to enhance flavor, and to buy organic if possible.

Some salads you might consider serving are: Energise for Life’s Alkaline Quinoa Salad W/Avocado, Poor Girl Eats Well’s Red Quinoa & Broccoli Salad with Almond Honey Vinaigrette, or your favorite salad with this lemon-based Alkaline Salad Dressing.

These soup recipes caught our eye: Martha Stewart’s Vegan Roasted Pumpkin Soup, Delish’s Ginger-Pumpkin Soup (substitue vegetable broth for vegetarians or to increase alkalinity) and Energise for Life’s Alkaline Pistou Soup (similar to ministrone). If you have a favorite vegetable soup recipe, that would certainly be a better alternative to canned, processed soups which are high in sodium and preservatives.

Sides

When preparing sides remember it’s important not use margarines as they are completely artificial and very acidifying.

Instead of serving traditional stuffing which tends to be high in carbohydrates, sodium and fat, consider these alternatives: Fall Apple Cranberry Stuffing (raw) or Rice and Nut Stuffing (can substitute quinoa for rice and almonds for pine nuts).

Instead of traditional mashed potatoes loaded with animal fat gravy, try using vegetable broth to make your own gravy or consider going gravy-free with either Herbed Mashed Potatoes or Cauliflower Mashed “Potatoes”.

As an alternative to green bean casserole loaded with fat and sodium, we suggest Gaby’s Spicy Garlic Green Beans or sauteed green beans squirted with lemon juice.

Forgo canned cranberry sauce which is high in sugar and preservatives and opt for Sugar Free Cranberry Chutney instead (use natural instead of artificial sweetener and consider adding nuts). Keep in mind that cranberries are acidic, so you only want to have a small portion.

Get more vegetables on everyone’s plate with Energise for Life’s Roasted Artichokes with Lemon Oil Dip or AllRecipes.com’s Grilled Asparagus (use sea salt and squeeze lemon on top if desired).

Main Dishes

We know, we know. Turkey is the main staple to a traditional Thanksgiving meal and everyone expects it to be served. But what if we told you that turkeys (along with chickens) don’t urinate, and that their urine is absorbed into their fleshy tissue (read: the meat you eat) instead? Willing to reconsider now? The truth is that all animal products are acidic and forgoing the bird is the best way to have a cruelty-free, environmentally friendly, alkaline holiday.

Top choices for alternative main dishes include: Alkaline Living’s Tofu Turkey, Martha Stewart’s Wild-Rice Stuffed Squash or Martha Stewart’s Quinoa Pie with Butternut Squash.

Desserts

Just because you’re trying to eat healthier and more alkaline doesn’t mean you have to skip dessert!

Put a twist on traditional pies with The Acid Alkaline Diet’s Pumpkin Pie or Live Apple Pie or try something more original like this Zesty Lemon Kuzu Dessert, raw vegan Rawberry Cheezecake or Pumpkin Soft Serve “Ice Cream”.

We wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season. Don’t hesitate to tell friends and family about the difference Chanson alkaline water has made in your life!
