6 Easy Ways to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

Because most homes are filled with toxic products like carpet, rugs, furniture and plastics, indoor air can be ten times more polluted than the outdoors. In fact, women who work from home have a higher risk of breast cancer than those who don’t, due to their increased exposure.

Other ailments caused by poor air quality include headaches, fatigue, wheezing, allergies, asthma and depression. Since most of our lives are spent indoors it is important to properly ventilate and to avoid buying non-organic fabrics and products and using chemicals inside the home.

The following is a list of six suggestions for easy ways you can improve your indoor air quality:

1. Salt Crystal Lamps

You may have seen salt crystal lamps at the street fair or in an energy healing shop and wondered what they were all about. They work by heating the salt with a low wattage bulb and releasing salt crystals into the air which attach to impurities, weighing them down so they cannot circulate and you do not breathe them in. It will also neutralize pollutants and toxins, and offers light therapy.

2. Beeswax Candles

Commercial candles are loaded with artificial colors and fragrances and are usually made with paraffin wax. Like commercial air fresheners, those types of candles pollute the air. A better alternative that can not only fragrance your home but clean the air as well are 100% natural beeswax candles (either unscented or scented with natural essential oils). Beeswax candles emit negative ions which clean the air and last five times longer than other candles.

3. House Plants

NASA scientists have found that certain houseplants such as spider plants, English ivy, and bamboo palms can remove up to 87% of toxic indoor air particles. Plants naturally filter the air and can neutralize fumes like carbon monoxide and cigarette smoke. Rooms with plants are said to contain half the amount of airborne microbes as rooms without plants.

4. Water Fountain

Flowing water releases negative ions into the air which attach themselves to air pollutants and drag them down so you cannot breathe them in. Researchers say that water fountains are as effective at cleaning the air as a HEPA filter. We recommend filling your water fountain with low level ionized alkaline water, and cleaning with acidic water to break down any mineral buildup or germs. Both waters are available from a Chanson water ionizer.

5. Air Filter/Purifier

There are many air filters/purifiers on the market. They are electric units which suck in and trap microbes in their disposable filters, much like a water filter. Depending on the size of your home, you may need several units, and the filters will need occasional changing.

6. Chanson Miracle Sanitizer

The new portable Chanson Miracle Sanitizer is a revolutionary device that sanitizes air, liquids and fabrics. It works by dispensing activated oxygen which binds with and eliminates pollutants, germs, bacteria, mold, fungi and foul odors. You can use it for everything from sanitizing mattresses and cell phones to creating non-toxic cleaning solutions to removing foul odors from your home rather than covering them up with a toxic air freshener. Unlike an air filter/purifier, there are no filters to replace.
