Alkaline Recipe: Smooth Green Juice

Mustard greens are highly alkalizing but have a sharp taste. This juice recipe hides the bitterness, and actually tastes smooth.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 head romaine lettuce (top)
  • 3 leaves mustard greens
  • 1 small lime
  • 1 green pear
  • 9.5 pH Chanson ionized alkaline water

Directions: Soak all produce in 8.0-8.5 pH Chanson alkaline ionized water for 10 min. Juice produce and dilute by 50% with 9.5 pH Chanson ionized alkaline water.

The Paleo Diet vs. The Alkaline Diet: What’s the Difference?

By now you’ve likely heard of the Paleo diet, which is based on what early man ate and getting back to our roots. Not quite as well known is the alkaline diet which is comprised of 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods, although celebrites like Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Aniston are now on board.

Both diets and lifestyles have many similarities, and are miles better for you than former diet crazes like Atkins and South Beach. There’s no calorie counting, no weighing your portions, just healthier food and lifestyle choices and results which are based more off of how you feel vs. what your scale says.

Here’s a rundown:

The Paleo Diet (aka The Caveman Diet)

What to eat:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Lean Meats (grass-fed and organic are preferred)
  • Seafood
  • Eggs
  • Nuts & seeds
  • Healthy fats
  • Fermented foods

What to avoid:

  • Dairy (butter is allowed)
  • Grains
  • Processed food
  • Legumes
  • Starches
  • Sugar
  • Vegetable, hydrogenated and partly-hydrogenated oils

What to do:

  • Exercise frequently using “natural movements” that use the whole body (such as walking, running, jumping, crawling, climbing, carrying, throwing, swimming…), change up your routine and include rest periods
  • Maximize contact with nature by keeping plants, gardening, working with animals, hiking in the woods, etc.
  • Wear a minimum of clothes, shoes or other protective material because exposure to heat, cold, pressure, and other natural forces strengthens the body
  • Expose yourself regularly to the sun to get sufficient vitamin D levels
  • Try to sleep at least 8 hours a day, preferably in line with natural day-night rhythms in a pitch black room
  • Reduce overall levels of stress and spend sufficient time relaxing, playing, and just “being in the present”, without worrying about later
  • Allow contact with dirt which contains beneficial bacteria that strengthens immunity
  • Rear children the way hunter-gatherers did: extended breast-feeding baby-wearing, co-sleeping, etc.
  • Sit in a squatting position, as people in indigenous tribes do
  • Socialize and interact with people, similar to primitive tribes

  • Get 15-20 minutes of sun exposure daily

Alkaline Recipe: Hummus

This Mediterranean dip can be served with fresh vegetables or used as a spread in wraps and pita pockets.

Ingredients:

  • 1 15 oz. can garbanzo beans, drained
  • Juice of 1/2 a small lemon
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 TBS. olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp. sesame oil or tahini
  • Sea salt & pepper to taste

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a food processor til smooth and enjoy!

Alkaline Recipe: Kale-Mint Juice

Kale Mint Juice

Ingredients:

  • 2 kale leaves
  • 1 cucumber (peeled if not organic)
  • 2 handfuls baby spinach leaves
  • 2-4 sprigs of mint (stems removed)
  • Stevia to taste (optional)

Directions:

Soak all produce in 8.0-8.5 pH Chanson alkaline ionized water for 10 min. Juice produce into a 10+ oz. container with a lid and dilute with 9.5 pH Chanson ionized alkaline water. Add stevia to your liking, shake, and enjoy within 8-12 hours.

The Truth About Protein

The most common question vegans and vegetarians are asked is, “where do you get your protein?”

Many meat-eaters falsely believe that meat is the only source of protein (otherwise known as the “protein myth”), but the truth is that many vegetables contain protein and the average American gets 7x the amount of protein they need.

According to Dr. Howard Murad, “There are many benefits to eating vegetable protein food as opposed to animal sources of protein. Vegetable proteins contain no cholesterol or saturated fat and in many cases also provide a good source of dietary fiber.”

Meat is difficult to break down and usually ends up putrefying and fermenting in the digestive system. In fact, when an autopsy was performed on American actor/cowboy John Wayne, 50 pounds of undigested meat was found in his system!

According to Dr. Robert O. Young, protein does not build muscle, blood builds muscle. And the best building block of blood is chlorophyll, which is found in leafy greens. So in order to build strong healthy muscle, you should eat your greens, not animal protein!

Dr. Young also says that meat robs you of your alkaline buffers and throws you into acidosis more than any other food. So if you are worried about your vegan or vegetarian daughter/cousin/friend getting enough protein, don’t!

Sources of vegetable protein include: artichokes, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, green peas, green peppers, kale, lettuce, mustard greens, onions, potatoes, spinach, tomatoes, turnip greens, watercress, yams, zucchini, apples, bananas, cantaloupes, grapes, grapefruit, honeydew melon, oranges, papaya, peaches, pears, pineapple, strawberry, tangerines, watermelon, soy, legumes, nuts, seeds, and quinoa.

Unfortunately the nutritional value of even organic vegetables has decreased from what our ancestors ate decades ago due to environmental factors. Soaking your fruits and veggies in 8.5 ionized alkaline water for 10 minutes before consuming can restore your produce to a freshly-picked state. Alkaline Recipe: Peach Chia Seed Pudding

This is a great vegan breakfast or dessert that can be made with a variety of different fruits. Chia seeds are full of fiber, protein and omega 3’s.

Yields 1 meal or 2 snacks

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen peach
  • 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds (available at health food stores and Trader Joes)

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender or food processer and allow to set in refrigerator for three hours.

5 Weird Detox Tips for Health & Beauty

We’ve all heard of strange old-fashioned natural remedies, some of which were born out of old wives tales. But there are many medically and scientifically proven detoxification techniques that are practiced today which should consider trying. They are relatively easy, quick and inexpensive, and could end up saving you thousands in medical bills.

Here are five weird detox tips for health and beauty:

1. Coffee Enemas

Coffee enemas facilitate excretion of toxic wastes and fat from the liver, cleanse and flush the digestive tract and colon (without substantially disrupting the beneficial flora in the gut), infuse lots of antioxidants and promote the absorption of vitamin A.

The late Dr. Max Gerson found that coffee enemas are particularly useful for cancer patients, and today patients at the Gerson clinic undergo five coffee enemas per day!

Coffee enemas can also relieve rashes, depression, confusion, general nervous tension, allergy related symptoms, severe and chronic pain while helping the body fight disease.

You can conduct your own coffee enemas at home using strained, organic unflavored coffee made with distilled water. Unlike most enemas, you are to lie on your right side in order for the enema to be taken up by the hepatic portal vein which travels directly to the liver. Add one quart of the cooled coffee to an enema bucket and place it 18 inches above the body. Lubricate the tip of the tube with coconut oil and gently insert it into the rectum 6-8 inches. Once the bucket has been emptied, allow the enema to do its job for 12-15 minutes before eliminating.

2. EFT aka “Tapping”

Tapping is a method where you literally tap different areas of the body with your fingers in order to improve overall health and well being, similar to acupressure or acupuncture. People have been known to use tapping to improve finances, lose weight, eliminate physical pain/negative emotions/limiting beliefs, improve their relationships and much more.

3. Dry Skin Brushing

Toxins collect in the lymph glands and an effective way to increase lymph flow and keep the pores of the skin open is by dry skin brushing. This technique will also slough off dry skin, improve circulation, firm skin, stimulate hormones and may even reduce cellulite. You can use a rough loofah or sea sponge, washcloth, soft pumice stone, exfoliating gloves or a natural fiber brush on dry skin by brushing in circular motions towards the heart. Brush your entire body first thing in the morning before showering for best results, and clean your “brush” once a week.

4. Oil Pulling

According to Dr. F. Karach, oil pulling helps with “head-aches, bronchitis, tooth pain, thrombosis, eczema, ulcers and diseases of stomach, intestines, heart, blood, kidney, liver, lungs and women’s diseases. It heals diseases of nerves, paralysis, and encephalitis. It prevents the growth of malignant tumors, cuts and heals them. Chronic sleeplessness is cured.”

All you need to do is swish a teaspoon of a healthy oil (coconut, avocado, olive, grapeseed, hemp, flaxseed) in the mouth for five minutes a day to naturally whiten teeth and pull toxins from the body. Make sure to spit oil in the trash when finished so as not to clog drains.

5. Acid Water Foot Soak

Soaking feet in a bucket of low pH acidic water can soften feet and detox the body. Our skin naturally has a pH of about 5.5, so soaking and cleansing with acidic water helps keep the pH balance. You can make your own acidic water for pennies on the gallon with a Chanson water ionizer.
