V is for Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
Tomatoes are rich in vitamin C, lycopene, beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Although they are slightly acidic on the vine, they have an alkalizing effect on the body when digested.
Vine-ripened tomatoes promote health in many ways. They:
- Have anti-cancer properties
- Promote a healthy immune system
- Have anti-aging properties
- May improve eyesight
- Protect our genetic material against damage and resulting disease
- Speed the body’s fat-burning capacity
- Can reduce the risk of heart disease
- May lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides
- Prevent clumping of the blood
