Top 6 Anti-Aging Tips

We all want to look and feel younger. Our society is beauty-obsessed, and Americans spend billions of dollars on anti-aging products each year. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Here are six things you can do to slow down and in some cases even reverse the signs of aging naturally:

1. Get enough sleep

When you sleep your body releases growth hormone which stimulates cell turnover, so a lack of sleep can accelerate aging and stress the body. Sleep research shows that just one week of sleep deprivation alters hormone levels and the capacity to metabolize carbohydrates. Aim to get 7-9 hours of sleep a night.

2. Drink ionized alkaline water

According to dermatologist Dr. Nicholas Perricone, author of The Perricone Perscription, “If you have any doubts about the effect of water intake on our skin, just put a grape and a raisin side by side…If you do not drink water, your organs and cells cannot function. How can your skin be soft and plumped up if you refuse the elixir of life?”

Alkaline ionized water from a water ionizer is up to six times more hydrating than conventional water, can literally plump cells up to twice their size, and contains three times more antioxidants than a glass of OJ! Aim to drink a minimum of half your body weight in ounces of alkaline ionized water daily.

3. Eat a plant-based diet

“Food is much more than just a life-giving and life sustaining substance–it is our single most powerful anti aging tool. The choices we make daily–or even hourly–directly influence our physical and mental states, the number of wrinkles, and the amount of sagging in our faces, our overall muscle and body tone, the condition of our internal organs, our brain and memory power, and our mental and emotional states,” Dr. Perricone says.

Aim to eat a plant-based diet chock full of anitoxidant rich foods like beans, berries, apples, and nuts as well as alkaline non-sweet fruits and vegetables like avocado, spinach, kale, cucumber and broccoli. Reduce or eliminate your consumption of free-radical forming acidic foods like meat, dairy, processed foods and sweets.

4. Reduce your exposure to toxins

Our bodies are assaulted with more toxins in one day than our ancestors faced in a lifetime, and the average women applies 535 chemicals to her skin daily. Choose natural skin care products and cleaners, open windows as often as possible and invest in an air purifier and water ionizer. The byproduct that water ionizers produce is ionized acidic water which acts as a multipurpose cleaner and body care product that will save you money.

5. Stress less

Research shows that stress speeds the aging process on a cellular level by harming DNA. According to cell and molecular biologist Elizabeth Blackburn and health psychologist Elissa Epel, chronic stress speeds up the rate at which our cells age by 10 years or more. Try not to get upset over small things, and control unavoidable stress with yoga, meditation, or deep breathing.

6. Use natural sunscreen

We’ve all heard that the sun can wreak havoc on our skin and lead to skin cancer, and therefore we shouldn’t expose ourselves to the sun’s rays without sunblock. But what many people don’t know is that the commercial sunblocks and sunscreens themselves contain toxic ingredients that can lead to cancer and other health issues! Better to shell out the extra few bucks for natural, mineral-based sunscreens. Also, try to avoid being outdoors when the sun is at its brightest: between 10 am and 4 pm.
